John went to the doctor yesterday and it's mostly good news; the biggest news being that if John continues to do well he can come off this terrible chemo in about 6 weeks and not go on ANY after that (the plan had been to move him down to a lesser chemo after this).
Sooo...those of you who prayed my request last week, ... you know who you are, ... it's working. Thank you. Please keep praying. This plan can only take place if John does not relapse. If he does, all bets are off and we're back to square one. So as we wean him off of the steroids and then off the chemo, the vasculitis needs to stay in remission. Please continue to pray. We still need it.
The rest of the visit addressed some issues occuring with John's glucose levels and blood levels. His glucose keeps spiking over 200, sometimes as high as 250. The doc is a bit concerned about this. Nothing new by way of doctor's orders at this point but we are watching it. Also, John's steroids have been reduced, which is a good thing but runs the risk of having the vasculitis act up again, so we're holding our breath a bit. And John's blood thinners have been increased, as his blood levels are not where the doc would like to see them. Other than that, and overall, things are relatively ok.
John is up and around mostly. Has to sit pretty often and elevate his leg b/c it swells and hurts. Yesterday it swelled all the way from his ankle to his theigh, which is new. It usually stops around the calf or knee area. His spirits remain good.
Regarding the kids, they are ok. I sometimes think that they have kind of forgotten what's going on or just accepted it. But this week I was reviewing spelling words with Isaiah (age 9) and the word was 'burden'. He asked what it meant and I said it was like a problem. He responded, 'so like when Noah and I fight?' and I said, 'no, more like a problem that you keep in your head or heart. You carry it with you b/c it's worrisome'. And he said, 'oh, like dad's illness'.
...yes, like dad's illness.
Please continue to pray. We can feel the power of prayer in our lives.
Thanks,
k

Your children are so gifted; to have such a wonderful mother, filled with wisdom and know how, not to mention Hope Faith and Charity!
Needless to say, how fortunate John is to have you as a wife and a mother to his children, as well.
God is certainly looking out for all of you, and will certainly show his approval in many, many ways...today and forever. AMen
