2.25.08

So, off we went this morning, again, for our "every Monday blood draw". John has to have blood drawn every Monday for as long as he's on the chemo. It didn't dawn on me to ask what specifically this weekly draw was screening for; apparently it's cancer, ...cancer caused from the chemo. Yup, we get a weekly test to make sure the medicine that's treating the autoimmune disease isn't instead, or also, causing a brand new disease. Irony.

Our next doc appt is Friday, when we'll get the kidney biopsy results back (hopefully). We'll also talk at that time about continued chemo treatment or not, a possible change in the meds, and/or a colonoscopy. In the meantime we plug on with the steroids (swollen face some days) and diabetes (down to 217 lbs. from 243). Big head, little body; again with the irony. He continues to be weak and have the nose bleeds but his mood is pretty good and his sleep seems to be a bit better. He drinks water like a camel (flushing out the bladder non-stop can reduce the chances of chemo induced bladder cancer) and since giving himself the insulin shots in the same spots is causing some brusing I have learned to give him shots in his arm to decrease the number of times he has to take the shots in the belly.

Yuck.

So let's end on something positive... all three kids are back in school and Mary, while still on meds, is no longer strep contagious. John seems to be even closer with God after all this than he was prior, as are all of us actually. Also, I am learning to recognize angels in desguise. Seems to me that that skill will assist me throughout life.

Keep praying please. Without the prayers I can't even imagine where we'd be.
Thanks and love,
k
